Another season of hard work has reached an exciting milestone at Indian Creek Hatchery: more than 93,000 fish have been released! This accomplishment represents countless hours of care and volunteer support throughout the rearing season, and we extend a huge thank-you to everyone who helped make it possible.

While one stage of the salmon cycle comes to a close, preparations for the next are already beginning. Incubation room repairs and upgrades are complete, a general cleanup is ahead, and volunteers will soon turn their attention to snout collection, broodstock collection beginning October 1, and spawning in November.

There are some exciting improvements happening around the hatchery, too. New internet service has been installed, opening the door for future cameras, alarms, and even live streaming of hatchery activities. A new mural is also ready for installation, giving visitors another reason to stop by and see what’s happening.

CAF continues to welcome volunteers both at the hatchery and through the growing CAF Auxiliary, which provides valuable support through fundraising, meals, events, and other activities. There are many ways to be part of the work ahead.

General Meeting Highlights

  • We released over 93,000 fish. Great job and thanks to all the volunteers that make this happen!

  • Beacon Internet has been installed. Moving forward we hope to add new cameras, alarms, live

streaming of our events and more.

  • This year’s Derby Banquet will feature several door prizes. Good luck to all attendees.

  • Our new Mural is ready for installation at the hatchery. Come see it soon. It’s beautiful.

  • Visiting Pets and their owners are reminded to clean up after their visit.

Congratulations!!! ---- Carl Chapman

Volunteer Opportunities

With fish coming in, volunteer help is essential — now is the perfect time to get involved.

  • 2026 Snout Collection – Our efforts this year yielded good results, but we would like to make next year even better. Please consider joining in this fun and productive opportunity. For more information, contact Bill Budd at (503) 929-3259 or adelphipainting.bb@gmail.com.

  • Scholarship Awards: If you would like to be on the selection committee next year, contact Frank

Jerome. Committee members meet several times between March and May to review applicant

    submissions and make the selection.

Save the Date 2026:

  • Snout Collection starting soon

  • Brood Collection will start October 1

  • Spawning in November

CAF AUXILLIARY

If you haven’t heard, we have a new auxiliary group, and they are up and running! This group is for volunteers to support our hatchery in ways that are “other than hands on hatchery” work. Fundraising events, lunches (Reel Fish Days, Fin Clipping etc.) and more. New members are wanted for this important work. The next meeting will be 7/27 at noon at the golf course. Discussion items will include snout collection (Meghan will bring actual fish heads to demonstrate), Derby coordinator duties, and the Derby bake sale.

We look forward to seeing you there.
