Thank you Volunteers!
The June 2026 General Meeting celebrated another successful milestone at Indian Creek Hatchery with the completion of this year's fin clipping program, made possible by an incredible team of volunteers. Members also received updates on hatchery improvements, upcoming community events, and new opportunities to get involved through the CAF Auxiliary and preparations for the annual Salmon Derby.
General Meeting Highlights
2026 Fin Clipping is finished! Over 93 thousand fish were clipped with 29 thousand receiving wire tags in 5 ½ days. Thanks to the 70 volunteers that came out to help. Putting salt in the runways after each was completed was very positive and will be part of the process going forward. Thanks to Warren the Grill Master and the auxiliary members for the great lunches!
Hatchery Update
General clean-up continues. There was a water problem, but our emergency pump saved the day!
Incubation Room repairs are nearing completion.
Volunteer Opportunities
With fish coming in, volunteer help is essential — now is the perfect time to get involved.
Feeding: Auto feeders are in place, but screen cleaning, counting morts and vacuuming is still necessary (see note above regarding the new vacuums) Contact Bruce Blanthorn at 702-499-3721or bdb1037@gmail.com to get on the schedule. Don’t forget to check the oxygen levels.
2026 Salmon Derby – Seeking volunteers to help make next years Derby even better than 2025. It’s never too early to begin. Donors are already preparing their 2026 budgets, so we need to reach them early! Contact Roger to get started!
Seeking silent auction and banquet coordinators for this year’s derby. Board donation collectors also needed.

CAF AUXILLIARY
If you haven’t heard, we have a new auxiliary group, and they are up and running! This group is for volunteers to support our hatchery in ways that are “other than hands on hatchery” work. Fundraising events, lunches (Reel Fish Days, Fin Clipping etc.) and more. New members are wanted for this important work. The next meeting will be 7/27 at noon at the golf course. Discussion items will include snout collection (Meghan will bring actual fish heads to demonstrate), Derby coordinator duties, and the Derby bake sale.
